If you are in search of complementary treatment for physical pain and emotional distress, you can consider EFT. Discover what EFT is all about, how it works to manage body tension and calm the mind. It has also been known to help with anxiety and depression.

What’s more is that people have even used EFT for weight loss, PTSD, public speaking and phobias!

A lot of people settle for lives filled with worry and anxiety. Without ever knowing how to achieve the level of peace and satisfaction they desire. If you often feel like you’re burdened with emotional trauma, compulsions and addictions, chronic physical pains or you just have an empty feeling inside then EFT might be the way to go.

Emotional Freedom Technique (often known as EFT, tapping or EFT tapping) is a universal self help healing technique. It provides notable physical, emotional and performance results. That is to say people who use the EFT believe that tapping the body releases blockages within its energy system. It creates a balance that invigorates your energy system and treats pain.

How does EFT work?

A typical EFT treatment involves using the fingertips to tap on the body’s meridian energy endpoints situated just beneath the surface of the skin. The tapping helps you stimulate your body’s energy points and send signals to the part of the brain that controls stress. EFT devotees claim that you can reduce the stress or negative emotion you feel by restoring balance to your disrupted energy. Sometimes even instantly.

EFT is compared to acupuncture, as it focuses on the body’s energy hot spots or meridian points where its energies are stored. It is believed that blockages at these points are the sources of incessant emotional intensity and discomfort. Alleviating these blockages can relieve the symptoms of negative experiences or emotions and restore balance to your body’s energy.

It’s based on traditional Chinese medicine where the body’s meridian points were thought of as energy thoroughfares. Because these points governed the balance of energy flow and dictate your health. And any imbalance in them could lead to disease or sickness. But instead of using needs like acupuncture does, EFT uses fingertips to apply pressure to these points.

History of EFT

EFT was first introduced in the 1990s by a man named Gary Craig. However, the theory behind it was developed about 5000 years ago when the Chinese discovered the body’s complex energy circuits. In his book, The Unseen Therapist, Gary considered this treatment to be an effective combination of acupressure and mind body medicine.

Five benefits of EFT

  1. Can reduce stress and anxiety levels

EFT can help one overcome anxiety, depression and other stress-related symptoms like panic, fatigue and insomnia. In this 2017 research paper, five researchers carried out a series of experiments. And concluded that EFT treatments are more effective than placebos.

2. Has been used to effectively treat PTSD

In a 2013 Psychological Trauma Symptom Improvementpaper, EFT was used to effectively treat war veterans. And active military with PTSD. Researchers reviewed the impact of EFT tapping treatments on patients with PTSD against those receiving standard care. They discovered that participants receiving EFT treatment had significantly lower psychological stress than those receiving standard care.

3. Can help reduce chronic headaches and pains

Several studies have shown that EFT can function as an alternative treatment. Especially for those suffering from tension headaches, chronic injuries and pain. Most noteworthy it was found that EFT helps reduce the frequency and severity of headaches. Plus improve other lifestyle factors.

4. Can help improve athletic performance

EFT treatment also helps improve athletic performance. This was found out in a randomised controlled blind trialof The Effect of EFT on Athletic Performance. Where athletes receiving EFT treatment were compared to a control group. The researchers found a statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of their performance.

5. Helps lower cortisol levels

EFT also helps reduce the way we produce the stress hormone cortisol preventing instances of stress before they even occur. What’s more is that in a study by the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, researchers discovered that people given EFT treatment experienced significant improvements in their cortisol levels.
